How to change your address on E*TRADE

Sign in to E*TRADE, open the profile or contact section, replace your mailing address and save.

Steps

  1. Sign in to your E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley account at etrade.com.
  2. Go to Customer Service or open the My Profile page under the Accounts menu.
  3. Locate your address on file and enter your new residential/mailing address.
  4. Save the update and confirm the change was applied to your account.

One E*TRADE gotcha. Keeping your address current matters beyond mail delivery: if your account goes dormant and E*TRADE can't reach you, state escheatment laws may require abandoned assets to be turned over to your state after three to five years of inactivity.

Worth knowing for investing accounts

  • Brokerages mail tax documents (1099s) to the address on file. A stale address means missing tax season paperwork.
  • Some address changes at brokerages trigger a short hold on outgoing transfers; do this early, not during a trade.
